Background:

Indian Village is one of the older and best-kept neighborhoods within the Detroit city limits. Many of the majestic homes in this neighborhood are more than one hundred years old.

The residents of one such home had reported some odd phenomena and asked the GLPARS team to look into it. Some of the things that they experienced were:

  • Seeing small figures/movement out of the corner of their eye
  • Hearing people walk around when there was no one there

Research:

No research has been completed for this case.

Conclusion:

Through our one investigation we were able to gather three pieces of paranormal activity.  None of the activity captured had any negative connotation whatsoever.  No one present during the investigation had any personal experiences or feelings of uneasiness at this location.

Based on the findings, as well as the claims from the residents, we can say that there is a small amount of paranormal activity in the home.  None of this activity seems to be negative or impacting the residents in any way.

Weather Condition:  Clear, winds light
Temperature:  38°
Lunar Cycle:  Last Quarter

Background:

The family living in the house are old friends of some of the GLPARS members. They asked GLPARS to come and perform an investigation to see if anything could be found. Some reports of activity include:

  • Footsteps on the stairs
  • Footsteps downstairs
  • Small figures and movement in the upstairs TV room
  • Odd sounds in the basement
  • Feelings of being watched in the basement

There are two adults, three children, two dogs, two guinea pigs and one cat in the house.

Location:

The house is an older home in the Indian Village historic neighborhood of Detroit. The age of the home is estimated to be 80-90 years. The home has two full floors plus a full-sized basement and attic.

Equipment Used:

The following equipment was used:

  • 1 Cellsensor EMF Detector
  • 3 Olympus Digital Voice Recorders
  • 1 Kodak DX4530 Digital Camera
  • 2 Sony HC38 (with NightShot) video cameras with HVC-IR external lights

Investigation Process:

There was great interest from the residents of the home in the investigation process. With this in mind, we decided to keep the group together and not split up.

We decided to target the basement and upstairs TV room. Todd and Paul did a complete EMF sweep of the areas that were of concern. Since this is an old home with old electrical wiring, we were not surprised to find some areas of higher EMF. One area was in the basement near the stairwell, but not quite reaching it. We initially thought that perhaps this was causing a "fear cage", but the EMF zone seemed to be approximately two feet in diameter and did not flow over onto the stairs. The EMF fields in the upstairs were caused by old light switches, outlets and old phone lines.

We left a voice recorder in the following locations:

  • Living room
  • Upstairs TV room
  • Basement

We had a video camera running in the basement and carried the other with us. The digital camera was also carried with us.

Research:

None at this time.

Findings:
Personal Experiences

None of the people had any personal experiences. In regards to the reports of walking or movement in the house, we were able to see how small noises on the main floor easily carry up to the upper floor via the stairwell. It is possible that one of the animals moving around could be interpreted as walking on the main floor.

Photographic

Nothing unusual was found in the photographs.

Video

Nothing unusual was found on the video.

Audio

Three EVPs were captured during the investigation. See the EVP section below.

Conclusion:

To be honest, we were not really expecting to find a whole lot of evidence with this investigation.  Our main purpose was to try to debunk as many of the claims as we could.  We were successful in determining that a couple of areas in the home were producing high EMF readings, which could cause some issues to someone who is sensitive to them.  Because of the architecture and layout of the home, sound seemed to carry very well. Between that and the fact that there are five pets, we feel that many of the footsteps heard could be explained via non-paranormal happenings.

Much to our surprise, we were able to capture three EVPs that we were not able to explain away.  No one present had any strange feelings or feelings of being watched.

Beased on our findings and the reports from the family, we think that there could be a minimal amount of paranormal activity happening in the home.  We are not able to call this house haunted per se.  There seems to be no negative feel to the house whatsoever.
